CHAVEZ SOUND / FIVE SE7EN COLLECTIVE
Ric Chavez, the Los Angeles born artist has done it all, between serving our country, working and serving on non-profits, putting in work for the FiveSeven Collective or somehow squeezing out music, Ric Chavez is leaving an imprint. With not a single article of Press to his name, Ric organically is touching and reaching fans all over the world with his eclectic yet focused sounds. Despite the uncertainty of 2020, Ric Chavez continues to pay homage to the artists that came before him, while simultaneously paving new ground with those legends. Now is the time to press play on Ric Chavez’ music because he’s bringing a new business to the table along with new music in 2021.
From the jump, Ric Chavez was passionately interested in music and his entirely family played a part in this process. “My parents had music playing, and my brother and sister both had some influence,” Ric recalls, “which expanded my range to dip into other genres.” While Ric started off playing the violin, he found his love in percussion, a prodigy in his own right, Ric would tour with a college drum line doing shows all around California. During all of this Ric is also getting his hands on every music magazine he could find, learning up on the studios, labels and backstories of artists. “I soaked everything in, I could name bands and their history all day and night,” Ric says. After high school, Ric joined the Army serving our country as an infantryman, deploying in 1-year stints four times (Afghanistan once and the other three in Iraq), completing a career of 21 years. None of this stopped Ric’s raw pursuit of the art form though, “adding more punk, crass and NYC hardcore” to his catalog was just another day for the LA artist. Ric Chavez has always been true to this.
Ric Chavez puts everything he’s learned into his music and the result is an eclectic collection of sounds. This isn’t simply restricted to genre either. Ric has spent years linking up with people, educating himself on the music and humbly applying those lessons to his diverse creations now. If you were to press shuffle on Ric Chavez’s discography, you’re immediately met with a versatility and quality that is rare these days. For example, his debut EP, “The Lobby” which released a few years ago, was immersed in that underground, dusty production. Then if you look at his collaboration with J57 titled, “The Collection” the duo takes you on a vibrant adventure full of trance, electronic, unique drums and out of this world music guaranteed to take you on a journey. There isn’t a sound Ric can’t work with, there isn’t a mood he can’t set, constantly providing quality music with a prolific output, whether through collaboration or solo.
There aren’t nearly enough words to cover everything Ric Chavez has done over the course of his tenure, but he’s just gearing up for more. Along with the music, Ric is the Social Media Manager and Digital Liaison, and overall Chief of Operations for the FiveSeven Collective. On top of this, he’s running his own company, Chavez Sound, volunteering with non-profits, while also STILL being a student to the world around him. He’s currently pursuing his Real Estate License in Colorado and recently earned his Master’s in Public Leadership. The grind doesn’t stop for Ric, “I believe I’m a great manager of time…” he says, “which allows me to maximize my focus on every task equally.” Whether in music or outside of it, you’re getting the 110% best from Ric which is invaluable. In 2021, be prepared as Ric plans to unveil his latest endeavor, a new label showcasing new talents guaranteed to make some noise. Don’t get left behind.
